Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting Minutes, January 7, 2020

In Attendance: Kim Handcock, Bruce Dunker, Lindsy Reagle, Gordy Kraut, Cindy Hauk and Dustin Curr. Absent: Anne Jo Spotted Bear, Terry Mohr and Janet Lurz. Others Present: Kelsey Clark.

  Wall-Badlands Area Chamber Board Vice President called the meeting to order.

Motion, made by Kim with a second by Cindy, carried to approve meeting minutes from December 3 and December 31.

 Motion, made by Gordy with a second by Kim, carried to approve the balance sheet and profit and loss sheet. A discussion was held regarding the implementation of an audit/review of the Chamber financials. Kelsey will get a recommendation and quote from Casey Peterson Accounting Firm.

Wall-Badlands Area Chamber Board President Dustin Curr arrived and took over leading the meeting. Each board member signed a Conflict of Interest Policy and Confidentiality Agreement.

Motion, made by Bruce Dunker with a second by Gordy Kraut, carried to have Dustin Curr, Bruce Dunker, Janet Lurz and Kelsey Clark as signers on all bank accounts.

Board members began planning for the Annual Meeting of the Chamber. The meeting will be held Thursday, April 16, in the Wall Community Center. Kelsey will contact SDRA, SD CEO and SDSU Extension for suggestions of possible guest speakers. Kelsey will also search for music options. Chamber Member restaurants will be sent a bid for the Annual Meeting meal. The bids will request businesses to send a proposal with a beef and chicken entrée option.

Motion, made by Kim with a second by Cindy, carried to hold a board retreat. Board members will check their schedules to decide on a retreat date.

Motion, made by Gordy with a second by Kim, carried to sponsor $500 to the Badlands Veterans Memorial.

Kelsey gave a brief Director’s Report and had Board members sign a ‘Thank You’ letter which will be sent to new and renewing 2020 Chamber members. Kelsey asked for thoughts about the best date and time to hold a Cracker Barrel with district legislators.

It was discussed what time of day would be best to hold board meetings in 2020; 7 AM works best.

Motion, made by Kim with a second by Bruce, carried to adjourn the meeting.
