Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting Minutes, February 18, 2020

In Attendance: Bruce Dunker, Janet Lurz, Terry Mohr, Lindsy Reagle, Gordy Kraut, Anne Jo Spotted Bear and Dustin Curr. Absent: Cindy Hauk and Kim Handcock. Others Present: Kelsey Clark, Executive Director.

 Wall-Badlands Area Chamber Board President Dustin Curr called the Meeting to order. Terry moved to approve the meeting minutes from the January 7 Board Meeting and January 27 Board Retreat. Second made by Anne Jo. Motion carried.

Gordy moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Second made by Bruce. Motion carried. A brief discussion was held about creating Agreed Upon Procedures for the Chamber financials, it was decided to continue the discussion later in the year.

The Chamber’s multiple Saving and CD accounts were discussed. Janet moved to combine savings accounts and CD’s. Second by Terry. Motion carried.

Board members continued planning for the Annual Meeting of the Chamber. The meeting will be held Thursday, April 16, in the Wall Community Center with social hour starting at 5 PM, Dinner at 6 PM and Program at 6:30 PM. The board will ask the Golf Course to hold the bar. Nathan Sanderson, Executive Director of the South Dakota Retailers Association will be the guest speaker for the evening. The Chamber will order fruit and veggie trays and wine from Wall Food Center. Board members discussed possible award recipients. Board Members will serve as the Hosts and Hostesses for the evening. Kelsey will reach out to Pastor Russel of the Methodist Church to see if he is available to give the invocation before dinner.

Janet moved to approve the $5,000 digital marketing proposal from Robert Sharp & Associates. Second made by Anne Jo. Motion carried.

Kelsey gave the Director’s Report and requested approval to attend the 2020 Mid-America Chamber Executives (MACE) Annual Conference, which will be held in Sioux Fall, SD May 6-8. Kelsey informed the board that the conference registration early bird price is $255 and lodging is $147 per-night. Gordy moved to approve Kelsey’s request to attend the MACE Conference May 6-8. Second by Bruce. Motion carried.

Board Members discussed2020 Wall Community Yard Sales, which are organized by the Chamber, and decided the Yard Sales will be held on May 30, the same day at the 4-H rodeo. The Chamber will cut back on advertising costs by posting more information on Social Media.

Brulé is a Native American music group that could possibly perform in the area this summer, the Board is interested in partnering with other organizations to bring Brule to the area. The Board is interested and will gather more information such as costs and potential dates.

Kelsey asked the Boards thoughts about creating a membership for Direct Sales Representatives; Board Members will continue thinking about it and brainstorming other possible membership benefits. Kelsey quickly recapped the Survey that was sent to Chamber Members; Kelsey will email the results to the Board Members.

 The Board decided to post the date of Board Meetings in Chamber Newsletters and approved Board Meeting Minutes will be available on the Chamber website.

The next board meeting will be held Tuesday, March 17 at 7 AM in the Wall Community Center Meeting Room. Gordy moved to adjourn the meeting. Second made by Anne Jo. Motion carried.
