Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Hosts Customer Service Training

 – By

The Customer Service Training, “Taking Customer Service from Average to Extraordinary” was held on Tuesday, June 26, for members of the Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce. The customer service training, led by SDSU Extension Community Vitality Field Specialist Peggy Schlechter, focused on teamwork, consistency, personal service and attitude in the workplace.

The class was offered to chamber members as a result of suggestions made in the Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Satisfaction Survey. The survey was distributed in February and March of 2018. A total of 17 employees from Golden West, West River Electric, Wall Drug, the Wall Community Library, Best Western Motel and South Dakota Tourism learned how to use the four topics of the training to deliver extraordinary customer service within their businesses.

Schlechter stated that customer service is important within a business because it will increase growth and profitability.

“Extraordinary customer service provides free word of mouth advertising for businesses,” said Schlechter. “Customers will talk about poor service and extraordinary service. How do you want people to talk about your business?”

"South Dakota is known for welcoming visitors from around the globe with a friendly smile and excellent customer service," said Neil Wagner, Industry Outreach and Development Representative from the South Dakota Department of Tourism. "The Department of Tourism was thrilled to see the Wall Chamber of Commerce's commitment to great hospitality by bringing customer service training to their community."

The Wall-Badlands Area Chamber of Commerce appreciates all of the businesses who invested their time and allowed their employees to attend the training. The chamber also appreciates SDSU Extension and Peggy Schlechter for conducting the training.
