Midwest Living Road Rally: 'Chasing Legends on the Trail of Monuments and Memorials

 – By

South Dakota Tourism was the proud official state sponsor of the 2018 Midwest Living Road Rally! The rally took place May 7-10 in the Badlands and Black Hills areas with the theme “Chasing Legends on the Trail of Monuments and Memorials.” Editors from Midwest Living partnered with South Dakota Tourism to create an itinerary covering the best attractions of the area.

The Road Rally kicked off at Wall Drug with a luncheon where Rick and Sarah Hustead shared the history of the family business and Mayor Marty Huether welcomed the group to Wall. After lunch and some fun at Wall Drug, the group moved on to explore Badlands National Park. That evening, members of the Road Rally spent the night at Circle View Guest Ranch located just 6 miles from the heart of the Badlands. Finally, before heading west to explore the Black Hills, the group rose early to experience the breathtaking view of a sunrise over the Badlands.

The 2018 Midwest Living Road Rally will offer great exposure for the area, including and 8-page editorial featured in Midwest Living Magazine describing a trip through the Badlands and Black Hills, offering specific tips and encouraging readers to plan their own trip to the area. A custom digital microsite was created to feature interactive maps, photos from the rally, links to social feeds, video and more. Promotion of the trip was emphasized on Midwest Living and South Dakota Tourism social media channels, highlighting each day’s activities. The trip will also be featured on select TV channels
